Interfacing

German:
Einlage

Interfacing is an additional layer that gives an area more body, at collars, cuffs and button plackets for example. It can be fusible or sew in.

In the file

Interfacing pieces are usually derived from the outer fabric piece. Digitally the shape can be copied and trimmed back rather than measured off again.
